John Gower has beaten off the challengers to defend his Canterbury Handicap Snooker title this weekend at Cuthberts Green.
Due to the earthquake a much reduced field contested this years event but it was keenly contested as per usual.
In the final John Gower met Cory Hall and was able to see off the challenge of Cory with a 2-0 result.
In the second frame Cory managed to get the last 3 colours, brown, blue and pink in succession and needing the black to force a re-spot before Gower fouled on the black sinking the white in the middle pocket after getting a double kiss on a jawed black.
However Gower didnt miss a similar shot on the black a second time after the re-spot and a valiant attempted save by Hall was thwarted.

The high break on the day was 33 by John Gower with Gower also taking the high break over all events with a 40.

Congrats to John

Up and coming youngster Matt Leigh won the plate with a 2-1 result over Jonathon Crum of Ashburton.
